Dock & Slip Manager

Dock & Slip Manager is run by Dex Tech Apps. Marinas use it to run their docks: slips, stays, bills and messages. Boat owners use it to see their bills and ask for a place to tie up. This page says what the app keeps about you, why, who else sees it, and how to have it corrected or removed. To ask about any of it, ask the marina you deal with, who will pass it on.

Who is responsible for what

If you keep a boat at a marina that uses the app, that marina decides what it keeps about you and is responsible for it, as it would be for a paper ledger. Dex Tech Apps keeps it safe and running on the marina's behalf, and does not use it for anything else. If you run a marina, or make your own login, Dex Tech Apps is responsible for your login and what you keep on it. A request you send a marina is that marina's once it has it.

What is kept

  • Your login: your name, your email address, and your password, which is stored scrambled so that nobody, including us, can read it; when you agreed to the terms, and that you said you are 18 or over. If you sign in with Google or Facebook instead, we keep the id that service gives you and the email address it shares - never your Google or Facebook password - and nothing else from your account there.
  • Your profile, if you fill it in: your phone, your address and someone to call in an emergency, kept once for every marina. When you save it, it is written to the record each of your marinas keeps of you, and a marina that takes you on later starts from it.
  • Boats you keep on your login: their names and sizes, so you don't have to type them into every request.
  • Requests you send: the marina you ask gets your name, your email address, the phone number you give, your boat and her size, and your dates.
  • What a marina records about you: your name and how to reach you; your boat, her size, and her radio call sign and MMSI if you give them; the slips and stays you have had; your bills and payments; what you buy at its fuel dock and store and what goes on your tab; work done on your boat, launches and haul-outs; your gate codes and fobs; incidents and storm plans your boat is part of; notes the office makes; and photos taken of your boat.
  • What you sign: when you sign a lease renewal or a storage contract online, the name you typed, when, the internet address it was signed from, and your login, so that the marina can show it was you.
  • Messages: the bills, reminders, notices and receipts sent to you by email or text; messages between you and the office, and when you tell it you're on your way in; your replies; and your choices about how you want to hear from the marina.
  • Questions from the front page: if you run a marina and ask us about the app, what you type, so that we can answer you.
  • What keeps the app safe: the internet address of a device that tries to sign in, for a day, so that password guessing can be stopped; and reports of errors, with email addresses, phone numbers and anything like a card number taken out.

Card and bank details are typed into Stripe's own pages and go only to Stripe: the app never sees or stores them. It keeps what Stripe tells it - that a payment was made, how much, and a label such as “Visa ending 4242”, so you and the marina can tell which card paid. There is no advertising, and nothing is sold to anybody.

Cookies

One that keeps you signed in; one that remembers whether you chose the day or the night look; and, while you are signing in with Google or Facebook, one that lasts ten minutes and makes sure the sign-in that comes back is yours. No tracking or advertising cookies. The cookies page lists them.

Who else sees it

Only the companies the app needs to work, and only what each needs:

  • Render, which hosts the app and its database;
  • the email service that delivers the marina's emails, and Twilio, which delivers its texts;
  • Sentry, if the app is set up to use it, which receives error reports with email addresses, phone numbers and anything like a card number taken out;
  • Google or Facebook, only if you choose to sign in with them: they learn that you signed in here, and share your name and email address with us.
  • Stripe, only if you pay a bill online, use autopay, or hold a deposit for a stay: it takes the payment for your marina, and keeps your card or bank details under its own privacy policy. The app tells it your name, your email address and which bill, or which stay, you are paying for. A marina paying for the app keeps its card or bank details with Stripe the same way.

We would also share information if the law required it.

How long it is kept

  • For as long as you have a login, or deal with the marina.
  • A login started but never finished: about a week after its link runs out.
  • A question sent from the front page: a year.
  • When you ask to be removed, your personal details are erased. The one thing kept is a record of your bills and payments, because the marina's books must show them for tax purposes. It is kept for up to seven years and then deleted.
  • When a marina stops using the app, everything it kept is deleted 90 days after its plan ends, or sooner if it asks. What the marina paid Dex Tech Apps for the app is kept for our own books for seven years.

What you can ask for

A copy of what is kept about you, to have it corrected, or to have it removed. Ask the marina you deal with, or ask the marina you deal with, who will pass it on. We will not treat you differently for asking.

  • From My login you can download a copy yourself: your login, your boats, and what each of your marinas keeps about you.
  • From My login you can close your login. If a marina has you on its books, your request to be forgotten goes to it at the same time; it keeps only what the law says it must.
  • You can stop texts at any time by replying STOP, and choose how you hear from each marina in your account.

Keeping it safe

Connections to the app are encrypted, passwords are stored scrambled, and each marina can see only its own records.

Children

Logins are for people 18 and over. The app is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly keep information about anyone under 13. If you think we have, ask the marina you deal with, who will pass it on, and it will be deleted.

Changes

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything that affects you significantly will be told to you before it takes effect. See also the terms.
